Accommodation Supplement is a weekly payment which helps people with their rent, board or the cost of owning a home.
We need more information because:

We don't know if the value of your assets is low enough

We don't know if your income is below the cutoff
-
We don't know if your accommodation costs are high enough
-
We don't know if you do not rent a Social Housing property
-
We don't know if you are not studying
-
We don't know if either:

You are 18 or over
-
You are 16-17 and financially independent from your parents
-
However you do meet these requirements:

You are a New Zealand Citizen or Resident
How to apply for Accommodation Supplement
What application form you fill out depends on what payments you're getting from us.
We can grant you the financial assistance you qualify for from the date you first contact us if you complete your application within 20 working days of that date.
Not getting any payments from us or only getting childcare payments
You can apply online.

If you can apply online for more than one service, you only need to fill out the form once.
If you don't want to complete the form online you can print out and complete an Extra Help application form.
Once you've completed the form, call us and we'll let you know what information you need to provide and how to get this to us.
Already getting payments from us (for example, a benefit or Disability Allowance) but not Accommodation Supplement
